Guillermo Del Toro levert een zeer vermakelijke film af waarin vreemde wezens en duistere settings een hoofdrol opeisen. Toch voelt de film niet duister aan, omdat het onderlinge gekibbel van de teamleden en Hellboy’s foute oneliners voor enorm veel humor zorgen.
